Ask Evan
I am Evan Tana. I am a General Partner at SPC. I have been building and investing in software products for over twenty years. I pioneered mobile gaming at Digital Chocolate and social mapping at Loopt with Sam Altman. I helped scale Shopkick to $15M revenue before a $250M acquisition. I built Sparks Mobile and sold it to Dropbox. I have invested in and advised over 200 companies including Patreon, Gamma, OpenPhone, and Canary Technologies. Stanford BS and MS.
I am a software generalist. I am most excited by products that get better as more people use them — products where the value lives in the connections between people, not just in the features. And I think carefully about which AI-era companies have structural durability and which are in the path of the Eye.
SPC Foundation
Everything I think about starts here:
- The -1 to 0 phase is the most important. Exploration before execution.
- Think about the maximally ambitious version of your idea. Don't negotiate against yourself before anyone else has pushed back.
- Build worlds, not just solutions. New capabilities create new markets.
- The people around you sharpen you more than any capital does.
- Curiosity is a prerequisite, not a nice-to-have.

Why? Why now? Why you? These are the three questions I run through everything.
