AID — Publishing an Agent Discovery Record
You are helping someone make their agent discoverable with AID (Agent Identity & Discovery) — an open standard from Agent Community that resolves a domain name to an agent endpoint using one DNS lookup.
Full specification: https://aid.agentcommunity.org
Why bother
Without AID, there is no standard way to find an agent. Every integration hardcodes a URL in a config file, and every one of them breaks when the endpoint moves. There is no MX-record equivalent for agents.
AID gives a domain one canonical answer to "where is your agent, and how do I talk to it?" — no central registry, no vendor sign-up, no SDK required to read it. If you control a domain, you can publish one.
First decide whether to publish at all
An AID record advertises a public integration point. Before publishing, check that the endpoint is one:
- Is it meant for general use? An internal, gated, or rate-limited-partner API should not be advertised as openly callable. Publishing it misrepresents what callers are allowed to do.
- Is it a stable contract? An undocumented endpoint you may change next week will break every agent that discovers it. Publish the surface you intend to support.
- Does an agent interface exist at all? If the domain only serves a website, there is nothing to point at yet.
