Preflight Skill

Goal

Run before any other work at the start of every session and at the start of every major task. Preflight performs automatic health checks, loads a compact summary of everything the agent can draw on (skills, guides, templates, personas, memory), surfaces the current cost/budget posture, recommends the optimal capability set for the task, flags anything new or changed since last time, and ends by asking the user a focused batch of clarifying questions (via clarify.skill). It is the single entry point that makes the system self-aware, cost-aware, and question-first.

This skill is intentionally cheap: it loads index summaries and state headers, not full bodies. Full skill/guide bodies are pulled only after the relevant ones are selected.

Steps

Step 0 — Auto-checks first

Canonical boot order (single source of truth). preflight is always the entry point. The order is: preflight (Step 0) → integrity-check (fast) → if resuming, session-resume (full memory load) → back to preflight Steps 1–6 (capability summary + clarify). For a cross-agent transfer, state-portability hydrate runs first to place the bundle, then this same boot order takes over. So the hand-off is one-directional (no circular dependency): portability → preflight → (integrity-check, session-resume) → preflight.

Run integrity-check.skill in fast mode (state consistency only) — confirm memory and working tree are coherent before loading anything else.
