Cloud IAM & Identity Misconfiguration (Repo/IaC)

Scope & Objectives

Objective

Determine, from static artifacts alone, whether the infrastructure-as-code in the repository grants cloud identities more authority than their workloads require, or opens trust relationships to principals outside the intended boundary. For every finding produce: file:line evidence, the pattern class (wildcard policy, confused deputy, PassRole chain, public storage, missing encryption-at-rest default, plaintext parameter type, over-broad OIDC sub filter, and so on), a severity per the anchors in Severity Assessment, a least-privilege rewrite, and an explicit Needs-Review marker whenever exploitability depends on runtime facts the repository cannot prove.

Provider weighting

AWS is primary: Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK-synthesized templates, Terraform state, user-data scripts, EKS IRSA annotations, GitHub Actions OIDC. GCP and Azure are secondary sweeps: project IAM bindings, service-account key material generation, storage IAM members, subscription-scope role assignments, shared-key storage auth, Key Vault authorization model, managed-identity adoption.
