Fan out only when the research splits into two or more questions that are independent, read-only, and each worth a worker's full attention.
Handle it inline when the work is small, sequential, obvious, or already ready for the next action. Do not fan out from inside a subagent: nesting is capped at depth 3, so the children's spawns either fail or burn session budget for nothing.
Decompose
Identify the decision the research must support. Walk the decision tree yourself first. Keep only task-grounded questions that are all:
- independent;
- verifiable from code, docs, web sources, logs, tests, or explicit context;
- capable of changing the synthesis, recommendation, risk, or next action.
If fewer than two questions survive, handle it inline.
