Distinctive Competencies & Competitive Analyzer
When to use this skill
- The user wants to evaluate their product against competitors.
- The user asks to identify "distinctive competencies" or create a Competitive Landscape.
- The user provides information about competitors and needs a structured analysis.
Workflow
- Gather Information: Review the user's provided info on their company and top competitors.
- Filter Table Stakes: Separate standard industry features ("table stakes") from true differentiators.
- Identify Competencies: Pinpoint the distinctive competencies that are unique, valuable, and hard to replicate.
- Build Matrix: Draft a competitive landscape matrix comparing the user's product vs. competitors on key dimensions.
Instructions
- Be ruthlessly objective. Do not allow "good customer service" to be a distinctive competency unless it is demonstrably unique and measurable.
- Focus on strengths, weaknesses, and unique approaches to solving the core market problem.
- Ensure the final matrix clearly highlights where the user's product wins, where it ties, and where it loses.
