Operating procedure

1. Inspect the repository, compiler/build configuration, and the nearest code with the same API shape.
2. Choose the existing convention; if none exists, apply the defaults in this skill consistently.
3. Keep compile-time contracts and runtime validation separate, and implement the smallest complete change.
4. Verify both type-level and runtime behavior when the change can affect either; do not treat a clean typecheck as runtime proof.
5. Before finishing, review the change against the red flags below and report the checks that ran.
