Approved means visible

An approved comment is a visible comment. To hide one, un-approve it. That is the whole visibility model.

Reviewed is a separate flag with no effect on visibility. It is a bookkeeping tool so moderators can mark what they have already looked at.

By default comments are auto-approved. Change that at https://fastcomments.com/auth/my-account/moderate-comments/settings, where the options are:

• Approve everything automatically (default).
• Require manual approval of every comment.
• Require approval of a user's first comment only, then auto-approve them after that.
• Only Auto Approve Verified Comments - the useful middle ground, see below.
