Reddit Search
Answer a question from Reddit threads the user can open: find the relevant posts, read their comment trees, and report what was said with a permalink for each claim.
Access facts
Checked 2026-10-07; access checks records what each route returned and when. Recheck when a route starts working or a new one fails.
- Reddit itself is closed to agents. Anthropic WebFetch refuses reddit.com and Anthropic WebSearch returns no reddit.com URLs. Scripted requests get a JavaScript challenge page, 403 on
.jsonand.rss, or a login redirect on old.reddit.com. Since 2025-11-11, new Reddit Data API access needs Reddit's approval under its Responsible Builder Policy. - Do not try to get past these: no User-Agent or header spoofing, proxies or Tor, search-engine redirect hops to collect a session cookie, cookie replay, CAPTCHA solving, or reading pages through third-party Reddit mirror sites. They are bot-detection evasion, and Reddit sues scrapers.
- Two routes work. Google
site:reddit.comsearch in a real browser finds threads across Reddit. The Arctic Shift archive returns posts, keyword search inside a subreddit, and complete comment trees with no account or API key. It is a free service its author runs without uptime guarantees: send requests one at a time, and use its monthly dumps instead of the API for anything bulk.
Helper
scripts/reddit_archive.py needs only python3 (3.10+) and network access to arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com. Run it from this skill's directory:
