Objective

Establish the intended local branch/ref state while preserving commits, worktree changes, linked worktrees, and remote refs.

Use When

• Create a branch from an exact start point, switch branches, or attach a detached commit to a name.
• Rename, copy, or delete one local branch.
• Set, change, or remove upstream metadata without pushing.
• Explain branch containment, merged status, or why a branch cannot be switched/deleted.
