Objective

Create a verified, recoverable snapshot of exactly the intended in-progress state while leaving excluded work protected.

Use When

• Save work before switching branches, pulling, rebasing, testing another revision, or handing off.
• Choose among a stash, temporary/WIP commit, safety branch, patch, or copied untracked files to preserve current uncommitted work.
• Restore a previously created preservation artifact when its identity is known.
• Inventory what a stash would and would not include.
