Objective

Perform a narrowly scoped history or shared-ref rewrite only when target, authority, state, blast radius, recovery, and verification are all established.

Use When

• Amending or squashing commits whose OIDs will change.
• Interactive rebase or history filtering.
• Force-updating a branch with an explicit expected remote OID.
• Deleting a remote branch or tag.
• Replacing an existing published tag.
• Removing sensitive data from selected history.
