Synchronize Branches

Objective

Make one local/remote branch relationship reach an explicitly chosen state without losing commits or silently choosing a divergence policy.

Use When

• Update a local branch from its remote counterpart.
• Publish a new branch or push an ordinary fast-forward update.
• Resolve non-fast-forward rejection or 'divergent branches' guidance.
• Set upstream as part of an explicit first push.
