Reach a specified earlier or inverse state while preserving all material work outside the exact reversal scope.

Use When

• Unstage selected paths while keeping worktree edits.
• Restore selected tracked files from the index or an exact commit.
• Abort a known merge/rebase/cherry-pick/revert/bisect operation.
• Create a revert commit for known changes or reset an unpublished local ref under an explicit keep/mixed/soft/hard policy.
