Bengali (বাংলা / Bāṅlā) is the official language of Bangladesh and the second-most-spoken language in India (West Bengal, Tripura, parts of Assam). It is written in the Eastern Nagari script (also called Bengali-Assamese script), an LTR abugida derived from Brahmi.
~270 million speakers worldwide (~170M Bangladesh + ~100M India + diaspora). The 7th most-spoken language in the world.
