Translate to Hebrew (he / iw) — High-Fidelity Skill
Scope & Variants
Hebrew is essentially a single standard target — Modern Israeli Hebrew (he / legacy iw). There is no significant regional split for product localization:
| Locale | Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|
he / he-IL |
Modern Israeli Hebrew | Default and only meaningful variant for product UI |
iw |
Legacy ISO 639-1 code for Hebrew | Deprecated but still appears in some old systems; equivalent to he |
Two register / vocabulary axes (not regional):
- Secular vs religious audience — affects vocabulary (e.g., divine names, calendar references). Default to secular Israeli for general product UI; switch to religiously-aware register when target audience is observant.
- Modern colloquial vs formal literary — most UI uses neutral modern register; legal/government can shift to higher register.
No script variant question to ask — Hebrew uses the Hebrew alphabet exclusively. Latin script appears only for technical identifiers and brand names embedded in Hebrew text.
