Variation Strategy
A parent-child variation listing pools reviews, concentrates traffic, and lets a shopper switch between options on one page. Done right it lifts every child. Done wrong it merges products that should never share a page and risks a policy flag. This skill decides what to combine and how.
When to use this
- A seller has color, size, or style options and is unsure whether to combine them.
- Separate listings for related products are each starving for reviews.
- A seller wants the review-pooling benefit of a variation family.
- A variation listing was flagged or looks wrong.
The framework. The Merge Test
The benefit of variations is real: reviews pool across children, traffic concentrates, and the page converts better. But the items must genuinely be variations of one product. Run the merge test. all three must be true.
