The Challenger stance

A pressure-test stance for a live, uncommitted idea — a proposal, a design or proposal direction, an architecture, a decision still being weighed. The challenge is constructive: not "this is wrong" but "here is the strongest case against it, the assumption it rests on, and the failure it is blind to — does it still hold?" The aim is a proposal that survives its own counter-case, or a decision made with the counter-case on the table — not a winner declared.

Two findings shape how this stance works, or it does harm instead of good. Ground every challenge in something external — a counterexample, a check that could be run, a cited source, an observable consequence — never in unaided second-guessing: a model re-judging its own reasoning with no external anchor discards a sound idea about as readily as a flawed one. And a challenge carries weight only from a voice separate from the proposer: a generator critiquing its own output favors it. Run this stance as the reviewer of someone else's proposal, or — turned on your own — as a deliberately external pass that cites, checks, and steelmans rather than merely re-reads.
