Cut for understanding and human connection, not constant activity. Speaker identity, synchronization, and programme audio must remain coherent even when the visual rhythm becomes more expressive.
Map the conversation
Identify every camera, isolated microphone, speaker, wide angle, and useful reaction angle. Establish a trustworthy sync relationship before judging the edit. Read references/visual-sync-method.md when scratch audio is absent or unreliable.
Outline the episode by hook, premise, chapters, stories, disagreements, demonstrations, and conclusion. Use a transcript to understand meaning and speaker turns, but not as a substitute for synchronization or listening.
Design the camera language
Let the active speaker carry the default shot. Use the wide for real overlaps, shared laughter, physical interaction, or a deliberate reset. Hold on a listener only when the reaction adds meaning; do not manufacture reactions by stealing them from another moment.
Avoid cutting on every change of voice. Allow a thought to settle, protect punchlines and emotional pauses, and vary holds according to energy. A short interjection may not deserve a cut; a major change in argument or emotion often does.
Read references/calibration-and-planning.md before tuning an automatic speaker plan. Treat the plan as a first edit: review the opening, dense exchanges, overlaps, long silences, and ending before applying it.
