IELTS Vocabulary Builder

Vocabulary is assessed in Writing (Lexical Resource) and Speaking (Lexical Resource) and is implicitly tested in Reading (understanding paraphrased vocabulary). Band 7+ requires less common, precise vocabulary used accurately; Band 8+ requires idiomatic or sophisticated control with only rare errors.

Use this when

• The user wants vocabulary for a specific IELTS topic before writing or speaking.
• The user wants to replace repetitive or basic words in their essay or spoken answer.
• The user asks for collocations, word families, or synonyms for a concept.
• The user wants to understand register differences (informal vs. academic vs. journalistic).
• The user wants to practise a topic's vocabulary through gap-fill, example sentences, or recall drills.

Do not use this when

• The user needs full essay or speaking feedback — use ielts-writing-task2 or ielts-speaking-coach.
• The user is asking about grammar structures — vocabulary and grammar are separate axes on the band scale.
