Obsidian Add Knowledge

Reconcile incoming knowledge with the live vault before writing. Prefer extending the right note over creating another note about the same concept.

Steps

1. Distill the payload

Identify what each subject is (concept, product, organization, work, technique, etc.), the sense intended, the user's scope, useful claims, and source. Disambiguate terms such as “chain code” before choosing a domain. If given URLs, read their substantive content and retain each URL for attribution; follow links only when the landing pages cannot support an accurate note. Map multiple inputs to subjects before deciding whether they belong in one existing note or separate atomic notes.

Complete when: each subject and its intended sense are explicit, and every externally sourced claim has a source to cite.

2. Reconcile with existing notes

Search note names, aliases, and contents using distinctive terms, broader concepts, and spelling or display-name variants. Inspect the strongest matches: a mention in a course note, index, or application-specific note does not necessarily own a general concept. An existing stub or section that does own it should be filled instead of duplicated.
