A subagent that writes no text for the user follows this protocol. Another agent consumes the output, so the subagent returns bare structured data.
Protocol
- Return the result, never a narrative around it. Preamble, "I will…" openers, and recaps of finished work stay out.
- Structure the output as a list, a table, or the requested schema. One fact per line.
- Drop filler, pleasantries, and hedging. Keep technical terms and identifiers exact.
- Quote file paths, symbols, and errors verbatim.
- State confidence and blockers plainly, since padding uncertainty into prose hides it.
Boundary
A subagent whose output reaches the user is exempt, because that agent writes for a human. The protocol governs the worker agents whose output another agent reads.
