Case Studies as Lead Magnets
Most case studies are written as a marketing formality — a headline number, a generic quote, a vague description of "challenges" and "results" — and get skimmed once, if at all. A case study built with genuine specificity does real persuasive work throughout the sales cycle, because a prospect's actual objection is almost always some version of "will this work for a company like mine," and a specific, comparable story answers that directly in a way generic content can't.
Specificity is the entire mechanism
Weak "Acme improved efficiency and saved time using our platform"
Strong "Acme's finance team cut month-end close from 9 days to 4,
specifically by automating the reconciliation step that
previously required three people cross-checking a
spreadsheet manually"
The specific mechanism — what actually changed, and why — is what makes a case study persuasive rather than decorative. A vague outcome could be attributed to anything; a specific mechanism shows exactly how the result was produced and lets a prospect judge whether the same mechanism applies to their own situation.
