Waitlist Lead Capture
A waitlist is a genuine lead-generation mechanism only if two things are true: the wait is real, and the person who joined it hears something before access opens. A waitlist that's really just a form for an already-available product, or one that goes silent between signup and launch, converts poorly and quietly damages trust in future launches from the same company.
Only build a waitlist where the constraint is real
Legitimate genuine capacity limits, a phased rollout, a product
that isn't built yet and joining actually shapes
priority or early access
Illegitimate a fully available product dressed up as scarce to
create urgency — this is detectable, and being caught
doing it costs more trust than the urgency gained
Manufactured scarcity is a well-known pattern and increasingly recognized by exactly the sophisticated, considered buyers most B2B waitlists are trying to attract. If the product is actually available now, sell it now — a fake waitlist adds friction for no real gain and risks a specific, damaging kind of credibility loss when discovered.
