Website Visitor Identification
Most B2B website traffic never fills out a form, and most of that traffic represents real companies with a real reason for being on the site. Reverse-IP identification tools match a visitor's IP address against a database of known corporate IP ranges to surface the company name — not the individual — behind an anonymous visit.
What the technique actually tells you, and its real limits
It tells you a company, with reasonable confidence for
businesses on a static corporate IP range
It does NOT tell you the individual visitor's identity or role
— this is a genuine, structural limitation, not
an implementation gap
It's unreliable for remote workers on home broadband, mobile
networks, VPNs and most small businesses on
consumer ISPs
Company-level identification, not person-level, is the accurate framing — anything sold as identifying the individual visitor by name is either using a different, more invasive technique (which raises its own separate consent and compliance questions) or overstating what reverse-IP matching does. Set expectations accordingly before building a process around the data.
