LinkedIn DM Outreach

LinkedIn messaging has a structurally different norm from cold email: it's a professional-social platform where an immediate hard pitch reads as more invasive than the same pitch in an inbox, because the platform's whole premise is a mutual professional connection rather than a broadcast channel. Most LinkedIn outreach fails by treating a connection request as an email inbox entry point rather than what it actually is.

The connection request note, done right

Weak no note at all, or a generic "I'd like to add you to my
professional network" template — low acceptance, and
         signals nothing about why
Strong a short, specific note referencing something genuine about
the person or their company — never a pitch

The connection request note is not the place to sell anything — it's the place to earn the connection itself. A note that pitches immediately gets rejected at a noticeably higher rate than one that's simply a genuine, specific reason for connecting, because it signals exactly the behavior LinkedIn users have learned to filter out on sight.
