LinkedIn Voice Note Outreach
A short, genuine voice message stands out sharply in an inbox that's otherwise entirely text, and it conveys tone, warmth and authenticity in a way text can't easily fake. It's also a more personal, higher-commitment format to receive than a text message, which means it's better suited to a warmer relationship or a later stage in a conversation than to a genuinely cold first contact.
Where a voice note fits in the relationship, not just the message sequence
Poor fit the very first message to a cold, unconnected
stranger — asking someone to listen to an unsolicited
voice message from an unknown person is a larger,
more presumptuous ask than a text they can skim
Good fit after a connection has been accepted and some initial,
genuine text exchange has happened; or as a way to add
warmth to a warm or lukewarm existing relationship
that's gone quiet
A cold voice note to a stranger is a meaningfully bigger ask than a cold text message — it requires the recipient to actively listen rather than skim, at a time and place of their choosing, which is a different kind of commitment than reading a short message. Reserve the format for a point in the relationship where some context and rapport already exists.
