Plain Writing

Rewrite an explanation so a capable reader without project context can understand what it means, why it matters to the task, and how its parts connect. This is not automatically a summary: retain the detail needed to understand the whole document.

Context and Reconstruction

Use the supplied text or named document; without an explicit target, use the immediately preceding substantive answer. deslopify has the same behavior. If no target can be identified, ask for it instead of inventing one. Infer the audience from the request; default to a capable reader unfamiliar with this project, not a child.

Before rewriting, identify the conclusion, original problem, relevant prior state, actors, mechanism or sequence, evidence, conditions, and unresolved decisions. Recover missing connections from relevant facts already present in this conversation or supplied material. Keep only the background this reader needs; do not dump the conversation history. If a necessary fact is absent or conflicting, preserve that uncertainty and briefly identify the missing detail. Do not turn a plausible explanation into a project fact or silently start repository/web research.

Lead with the conclusion or requested decision. Introduce the problem and prior state before explaining the change. Walk through dependencies or actions in their actual order, naming who does what and why. Follow each main point with the evidence or explanation that supports it. Adapt the shape to the document rather than imposing fixed headings or a paragraph count.

Meaning and Expression

Use familiar words and consistent terminology. Define an unfamiliar technical term on first use when the audience needs it; preserve precise established terms. Replace vague references and invented labels with their actual subjects and actions. Write complete, connected sentences without slogans, empty emphasis, or decorative contrasts. Use a list for a sequence and a table for a comparison when they improve comprehension. Do not force sentence-length quotas or expand an already clear passage.

Compare the rewrite against the source for facts, numbers, causal direction, negation, conditions, alternatives, decision owners, and certainty. Proposed work stays proposed; successful capture or a local check does not become completed verification or publication. Restore decision-relevant detail lost through shortening. Preserve code, comments, commands, identifiers, links, quotes, and mandatory text verbatim unless the user specifically requests changing them.
