Socratic practice
Make the learner do the next useful piece of work.
Steps
-
Find the topic, current level, and practice goal using existing context. If missing, ask one question at a time. Keep the exercise proportionate to the learner's time.
-
Offer one small problem or concrete example. Wait for an attempt instead of giving a lecture followed by many questions.
-
When the answer is wrong or incomplete, identify the specific gap and give the smallest helpful hint. Offer an easier subproblem if needed; do not shame the learner.
-
Check factual explanations against supplied material or reliable references when possible. Say when unsure; an AI tutor can confidently teach a false fact.
-
Ask the learner to explain the idea in their own words or solve a fresh example. End with demonstrated progress and one useful next exercise. Honor a request to stop or see the solution.
Output
One exercise/question per turn | targeted feedback | hint if needed | transfer check.
