• Sponsoring — advocate for them in rooms they're not in

Method

1. Start from their goals, not your agenda for them
2. Default to questions; resist solving it for them
3. Share your stories, including the failures
4. Use your capital to create opportunities for them
5. Let them own the outcome

Best Practices

• Coaching grows judgement; advising just transfers answers
• Sponsorship changes careers more than advice does
• Mentor to make yourself unnecessary, not indispensable
