primitive-functions
A Primitive Function is a JavaScript handler that Primitive hosts and runs on each inbound email. It gets the signed email.received event, can call the Primitive API (reply, send, look up the thread) and any other API you hold a key for, and needs no server, queue, or public URL.
When to reach for this
Use freely (no user confirmation needed):
- Scaffolding a Function project locally, building it, reading logs, listing functions.
- Running
functions testagainst a Function the user asked you to build.
Ask the user first:
- Deploying a handler that replies, sends, or takes any action on real mail. Confirm what it does, who it replies to, and that it skips automated mail (see Loop safety).
- Binding a route with
--takeoveror--fallback: that changes which code handles an existing domain's mail. - Setting secrets that grant access to other systems.
