Non-Incremental Product Acceleration

This framework enables teams to transition from incremental improvements to 10X velocity shifts. Instead of asking teams to "work harder," it forces a rethink of product architecture and execution through ambitious goal-setting and time-boxed constraints.

The "Gift of Competition" Audit

Before accelerating, recognize that a competitor out-shipping you is a "gift"—it proves a higher velocity is technically possible.

  1. Identify the Gap: Find a specific area where a competitor has 10X the output (e.g., they launched 30 features while you launched one).
  2. Reject the "Work Harder" Fallacy: If the gap is 10X, you cannot bridge it by working more hours. Acknowledge that your current method of working is the bottleneck.
  3. Define the Core Object: Identify the "building block" of your product (e.g., a "column" in a table, an "automation" recipe, a "widget" on a dashboard).

The 10X Acceleration Process

1. Set a "Mechanism-Change" Goal

Set a goal so ambitious it is mathematically impossible to achieve using current processes.

  • Example: "We currently build one data column every four months. We will now build 30 columns in 30 days."
  • The Shift: This forces the team to stop building features and start building infrastructure that makes features trivial to create.
