Bounded context design
Purpose
This document provides detailed guidance on designing bounded contexts and mapping their relationships within domain-driven architectures.
Bounded contexts establish explicit boundaries where domain models maintain internal consistency while interfacing with other contexts through well-defined contracts.
This elaborates on steps 5 and 6 of the discovery process outlined in discovery-process.md.
It focuses on translating discovered sub-domains into concrete implementation boundaries.
It also addresses how to design the relationships between those boundaries.
The patterns and techniques described here apply whether you are working with modules in a monorepo, services in a distributed system, or components in a modular application. The underlying principle remains constant. Contexts define the scope within which a particular model applies consistently. Context relationships determine how models interact across those boundaries.
