Bump

When to use

Use this skill when:

• Performing a release bump with coordinated version updates across every version file that already exists in the repository.
• Generating release notes from commit history and writing them to the project's changelog.
• Running the project's existing build and validation commands as a release gate.

This is the language-agnostic counterpart to wp-bump. For WordPress plugin releases (main-file header, readme.txt stable tag), prefer wp-bump.

Inputs required

• Repo root (current working directory).
• Target version, preferably SemVer (1.2.3). If missing, ask the user.
• Changelog entry: auto-derived from git log since the last tag; prompt only if no useful commits are found.
• Release date. Default to today's date.
